2004 Iceland Airwaves Review by Sölvi Blöndal

This is a review of Quarashi’s performance at the 2004 Icelandic Airwaves festial that Sölvi wrote for The Quarashi Vibe, Thanks Sölvi!

Hey it’s Sölvi from Quarashi.

Last Saturday we played at Airwaves.

The gig was really fun, and Stoney was onstage the whole time in spite of having a dislocated knee and shoulder this time.
Somebody told him that his name wasn’t really Stoney the Stadium so he had to kick him in the stomach with his knee. Therefore he was pretty beat up when came on stage.

First time we played at Airwaves we got signed by EMI publishing, and that event later resulted in the release of JINX.
So playing Airwaves is always more of an enjoyment rather than an obligation.
It’s a fun festival and there are always some really cool bands that play every year.
We decided to keep our set list short this time and not to pause a lot between songs.
We only paused once and that was for Omar to sing “Boxer” with Simon and Garfunkel.
It’s going to be a regular track on our set list from now on that’s for sure.
Dj Magic played along with the four of us, he had a pretty cool costume on and at times I was rather afraid of him to be honest.
Nevertheless it was a strange gig for me because I felt like not many people recognized the songs.
When I walked into the crowd I came to realize that more than half of the crowd were foreigners, so no wonder they didn’t know our latest songs.
Anyway. This is a great community on the web that’s being created here, and it helps us a lot to get our music known around the world.

Thanks a lot.
