Quarashi supports Stígamót
Rape is a crime mbl.is/Sverrir Vilhelmsson
The band Quarashi is going to donate half a million icelandic crowns of the payment they will receive for their concert to Stígamót (Education and Counseling Center for Survivors of Sexual Abuse and Violence). The band will be performing at “Besta Útihátíðin” among other things.
Many times a year there is news of one or more rapes that have taken place at festvals and outdoors-festivals and just as often these violent crimes have been described in the media as “a nasty affair at an otherwise wonderful festival”
The spokesmen of “Besta Útihátíðin,” the band Quarashi and other bands that will be performing there want to heavily stress that violence and particularly sexual violence, will not be tollerated at the festival,” says in their announcement.
“Nei hópurinn” (No group) has been operating since 2003 and has been attending outdoors-festivals to bring into focus the severity of rapes and to prevent such violent crimes from being committed.
“The spokespeople for “Besta Útihátíðin” are thankful for the No group’s intentions of being at the festival and being visible to all the guests there, keeping their message as evident as possible through all the music and festivities,” is also stated in their announcement.
