“The song is called Rock On and contains references from the early days of Quarashi,” says Sölvi Blöndal, member of the band Quarashi which will be releasing their first new song in a decade on Thursday. Quarashi is one of the most popular bands of Icelandic history, the band formed in 1996 and operated until the year 2005. The last album they released was Guerilla Disco which came out in 2004.
Rock On will be released on Spotify and YouTube and is part of a bigger release that the band is working on for later this year.
“To achieve the original sound we dug up some recording gear which was used in the beginning of the 90’s as well as other aids which were considered indispensable for the recording of Quarashi’s music at that time. We tried to recapture the vibe of 1996,” Sölvi adds.
Quarashi will be coming together for one concert this year in Herjólfsdalur for Þjóðhátíð í Eyjum music festival. All members of the band will be stepping on the stage; Höskuldur Ólafsson, Steinar Fjeldsted and Ómar “Swarez“ Hauksson. Egill „Tiny“ Thorarensen will also be with the band as he replaced Höskuldur when he left in 2002.
